Project Profile
Census StatVentures: Regional Insights for Emerging Supply Chain Threats
The goal of this project is to create a novel dataset by linking import/export details to products and suppliers nationwide, tracking end-to-end use of intermediary inputs and materials. This dataset will provide the Census Bureau with more timely and granular data that users can translate into information about a compelling national security and economic interest: regional supply chain risks in the manufacture of critical products as determined by the Department of Defense and the National Science Foundation. The Census Bureau benefits from this work by improving existing industry-to-industry linkage data while also demonstrating its value as a resource in meeting national strategic interests. While this proposed approach can be adapted for any supply chain, our current goal is to create a proof-of-concept dataset on semiconductor or EV battery manufacturing in collaboration with states that are prioritizing investments and business leaders who can assess these supply chain dynamics.
