Conducting an Impact Analysis of the Defense Intelligence Agency Move to Charlottesville

The Council for Community & Economic Research (C2ER) and the Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC) conducted a survey of US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) personnel scheduled to move from Washington, D.C., to Charlottesville, Va., as a result of the 2005 Base Reuse and Alignment Commission (BRAC) recommendations.

The project included an analysis of the direct and indirect impacts on the Charlottesville economy to help area economic and workforce development agencies prepare for the shifts of more than 1,000 positions expected during 2009-2011.

The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission provides regional vision, collaborative leadership and professional service to develop effective solutions in the Charlottesville, Va., area. It is directed by a twelve-member board, consisting of two representatives appointed by each local governing board, more than half of whom are local elected officials. The Commissioners have varied backgrounds and currently serve on various boards and committees in the region.
