Project Profile
Improving State-level Labor Force Projections
CREC and the State of North Carolina Labor and Economic Analysis Division (LEAD) worked with the Projections Managing Partnership on an improved methodology that considers state-level labor force projections as a benchmark for labor supply in the PMP’s employment projections products. The PMP relies on national estimates provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which can be overly constrictive in some states and overly generous in others. The Projections Managing Partnership serves as the central hub for supporting states as they develop and deliver high quality state and local employment projections. The overall objective of the project was to determine how the PMP should proceed with labor force projections as a supplement to the current employment projections process, specifically as a supplement to the production of industry and occupation projections required of states by the U.S. Department of Labor.
